The Brothers of Athacus
The Brothers of Athacus were founded during the Ultima Founding, the largest creation of new Space Marine Chapters in the history of the Imperium. Their founder, the warrior who would take the name Athacus, was a former Ultramarine of considerable distinction: a warrior Marneus Calgar judged too large in personality for a Chapter not his own. With Calgar's blessing and the blessing of Belisarius Cawl, Athacus crossed the Rubicon Primaris and became the first true Astartes of a Chapter that did not yet exist.
He named it himself. He recruited its first 300 brothers. Then, during an engagement with Necron forces, he was gravely wounded and placed into stasis. He remained there for 200 years. His command team built the Chapter without him, expanding it to just over 1,000 brothers by the time he emerged. His first captain stepped down immediately. Athacus resumed command as if no time had passed.
He has led the Chapter for the majority of its existence. He is now over 500 years old. He leads from the front in most engagements, and he tutors his brothers under fire. His homeworld was Gryphonne IV. The Necrons took it from him. He has not forgotten.
The Chapter carries one significant anomaly: its Librarius is twice the size of the Ultramarines'. Fifty Librarians serve the Brothers of Athacus. Chief Librarian Peanut oversees them. The source of this unusual density of psykers is unknown. The Chapter is grateful regardless.
